Last night we went over to Tony and Maxine’s place because their computer was feeling sickly. It turned out that there wasn’t really anything wrong with it, so we ended up having a nice little visit. Tony is an amazing guitar player and I had mentioned to him that I was interested in learning how to play a while back, so with me in his house, he pulled out a couple guitars and showed me a couple of things. That totally got my engine jump started. I picked up the guitar that I had already arranged to borrow from my Mom and I’ve been tinkering with it all evening. The coolest part about learning guitar is that you really can just pick it up. With the tabulature online you don’t need to know how to read music, you just have to know the tune you’re trying to play and then pluck away. It’s really quite motivating to be able to play something that you know right away. I can already play the first couple bars of Under The Bridge. Mind you my fingers hurt now. If I keep this up at this rate, I’m going to have calises by the end of the week.
On the technical side of things, I installed TMDA on my server today. My whitelist program was good, except it had a fairly large impact on the CPU, this one boasts that it doesn’t, so I figured I’d try it out. Plus this one doesn’t have a web interface to it. I suppose I could build one, but the person who’s emailing you simply replies to a confirmation message and they’re messages are passed. Fortunately for me, I’m able to use the database that I already set up for my own whitelist for this one, so I don’t have to do any extra work to get my whitelist set up. Down side to TMDA: if I send someone an email with a windows mail client and I’m not using the tmda mta, then when they reply they are forced to go through the confirmation process. If you’re using certain unix mail clients you can configure them to tag the message so that if the person replies to the message you sent, it will come to you.
