Oh, woes! Okay, at work, for the past little while, my main tasks have included getting a new fibre optic cable installed in the building. All well and good, except for the fact that nothing is easy or cheap with these contractors. Originally it was supposed to cost $2550 for installation of the whole project, a number which is already expensive. Now they tell me that the 550 (5.50 x 100 metres of cable) is the cost of installation, we still have to buy the cable for 2.34 per metre. Then because we have no plans for the building we were forced to have them dig up the property for $700. Now, because the only usable duct/conduit that we have is a Hydro conduit, we have to have a Hydro employee out here for $52/hour while we install it. That’s not too bad, but now, I’m told that Hydro employees come in pairs and you have to pay for their bucket truck’s time too, totalling $154/hour. So now, rather then the expensive $2550 installation, which would take a year and a quarter to re-coup, we have anywhere from $3500 to $4000 installation which will take 2 to 3 years to re-coup. I’m glad we’ll be saving monthy fees by reselling our connection, otherwise this would be a very bad thing. Anyway, I’m going to go strangle some people now and hopefully they will charge me less.
